Spider-Man: Homecoming- Some Thoughts

(It should be noted that Left Hand Free by alt-J is playing while writing this)

For my favorite or even anticipated movies, particularly Marvel, DC, and lately Game of Thrones, I like to jot down my thoughts when it's fresh in my head or as I'm watching it, sometimes to later recall tidbits or inside jokes. For Marvel films I like to break down by character and then everything else. I must be prepping to be a film critic or a devoted fan.

Here's mine for Spider-Man: Homecoming

Five Take Aways
1. I'm really confused by the time line now
2. It's more a teen movie
3. Oh Karen, you can be my PA anytime. We can talk about boys and life choices all day.
4. Wait...what? What? WHAT?? (When Pepper shows up and what follows...)
5. How many PSAs has Cap done? Imagine if he did GMTs (General Military Training)...

Peter Parker/Spider-Man:
-buffest (I know that's not a word) 15 year old I've ever seen
-still cute (but I can't get over the fact he's 21 and brit)
-Peter, if you've lost five backpacks already, you got to rethink your strategy
-Also I get that your smart, but when do you do your homework?
-I know Tony has a point but I got to side with Pete on stuff
-You know Italian?
-I know you had a job to do, but what a lame way to ditch a girl
-Also work on your acting chops (but it was oddly fun watching a guy pretending to be a guy who is not acting)
-Is he... are you an Avenger?
-Do you not check to see if anyone else is in you room (again)?

Tony Stark/Iron-Man
-Where did you find/find out about Peter?
-why were you in India?
-The department of damage control? (Turns out this actually exists in the comics)
-I know your a little protective of Pete, but that was a little harsh especially when you gave him no direction or even let him know 'hey I sent in the FBI'
-When did you get back with Pepper???

Happy Hogan
-You can't even send a weekly acknowledgement?
-You might have an issue if someone is actively stealing your stuff...

Vulture
-A better complex chracter
-Did not see that twist coming or that other one
-You picked up a random weapon and didn't know what it was???

Ned/the BFF
-Nice to see a Hawaiian in the mix
-"The man at the computer"
-A good complementary to Peter
-Your answer is porn?

Michelle aka "M.J."
-good twist
-I like her spunk
-"haters gonna hate, hate, hate..."
-she knows...

Other Good Stuff
-Kitty!
-The teachers
-Ha! He stole Flash's car...
-Karen

Thor: Ragnarok Movie Review

There are times when you feel like you didn’t see something eye to eye with someone else. It all happens to us. But this time it was me against the vast majority of the audiences who saw Thor: Ragnarok. Now before the torches and pitchforks go flying, I did not hate this movie. Marvel has done a pretty good job so far (at least in the Cinematic Universe) of not having one bad movie that has been either a) a commercial flop or b) narratively a piece of garbage or c) both. Apocalypse…Now?

*Heavy Spoiler, Read at Your Own Risk!* Don’t let the name fool you; Francis Coppola’s movie has nothing to do with the apocalypse but it can feel like it as it takes place in the heart of the Vietnam conflict. There are explosions left and right, casualties on all sides, bullets flying everywhere and just when you think it’s safe…BAM! There’s a freaking tiger! It’s an ugly gritty film that won numerous awards and accolades (the cinematography I can agree with but everything else is a perspective I can’t get on) so much so that it’s considered one of the greatest films of all time (for some reason). To be a worthy film, it must a make you think and make you feel. While it certainly makes me think, it also makes me want to vomit. The Napping Princess HIFF Movie Review

To describe Napping Princess would be like trying to give a brief description of Japanese pop culture. It’s one of those movies that must be seen in person and requires some thinking. It can be emotional at times and confusing as hell in other parts but it’ll make you laugh and for what it’s worth, it’s full of heart.
